Excerpts from “God’s Champion” by Min. Gail Faulkner

From Genesis to Revelation, the Lord had always raised champions. Before the fall of Adam, His original design for humanity comprised a sinless life. This truth ended with the sin of Adam. Nonetheless, roughly about 4,000 years after Adam’s fall, God provided through the Ultimate Champion, Jesus Christ, all that is necessary for us to live triumphantly. Thus, we do not have to stay entangled with the affairs and bondages of this world. We can embrace the victorious life in Him. We are God’s champions, and our victory is in Christ Jesus.

Today, the Lord is looking for individuals who will accept the challenge to be a “Champion for God.” He calls us to champion the cause of Christ, His cross, and the Great Commission. His promises are true and faithful. Are we willing to step out by faith and obey His command to serve Him faithfully in these unholy times? (2 Cor. 6:17-18). He will work in and through you to accomplish what He has designed for you to do. All you have to do is be willing and yield to the Lord. HE is willing and ready to work through you!

The Mark of a True Champion:

  1. God’s champion knows His voice. John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
  2. God’s champion believes His promise and follows the leading of His Holy Spirit.
  3. God’s champion prays continually and seeks His face daily. The prophetess, Hannah, although barren, was a woman of unbreakable faith. She rose early in the morning and worshipped before the LORD, and in return, the Lord remembered and blessed her with a son, Samuel the prophet. (See I Samuel 1ff.)
  4. God’s champion expects victory. “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
  5. God’s champion understands that His anointing enables you to be victorious and not your own strength. Isaiah 10:27, “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
  6. God’s champion gives Him ALL the glory, honor, and praise. Psalm 34:3, “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

Examples of God’s Champions:

  • Gideon, the fifth judge and reluctant leader of Israel, was finally convinced of the power of God. With only 300 men, he ultimately led the Israelites in victory over their enemies, the Midianites. (See Judges 7)
  • Deborah, a prophetess, and a judge, were one of the many women God Himself called and used. Her leadership qualities were respected and unquestionable. She ended 20 years of Canaanite oppression and brought forty years of peace to Israel (Judges 5:31).
  • Elisha prayed to God to blind the eyes of a whole army and led them amid their opponent. Because of their unwavering faith, God won irrevocable victories through each of them. (II Kings 6:8-23).

God is calling out today, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” I pray for you to respond in unwavering faith, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8). Then get ready to see victory after victory won for God’s kingdom through YOU—His champion!
