January 2026- Fasting and Prayer Guide

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”  Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)

Why We Fast

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that humbles us before God and deepens our commitment to Him. It is not about earning favor or manipulating God, but about seeking His guidance and presence.

Biblical Example: Daniel fasted for 21 days during times of distress, abstaining from meat and rich foods while consuming only fruits, vegetables, nuts, and water (Daniel 10:2–3).

Spiritual Benefits of Fasting

  • Heightens spiritual sensitivity and draws you closer to God.
  • Creates an environment for breakthroughs and miracles.
  • Cultivates humility, sanctification, and the fruits of the Spirit.
  • Strengthens your ability to overcome spiritual challenges and discern God’s will.

Physical Benefits of Evening Fast (6 PM – 6 AM)

  • Rest and Healing: Allows your body time to recover while you sleep.
  • Improved Digestion & Metabolism: Supports better digestive health.
  • Detoxification & Cellular Repair: Reduces inflammation and boosts vitality.
  • Immune System Support: Enhances recovery, reduces inflammation, and promotes cell regeneration.

Scripture Support:

  • Isaiah 58:6-8: “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
  • The Bible says He rewards those who seek Him wholeheartedly (Hebrews 11:6).

REMINDER

  • Commit to Pray: Whether at home, during lunch, or in your quiet time, make prayer a priority.
  • Health Precautions: If you have health concerns, consult your doctor before making changes to your medication, diet, or hydration.
  • Alternative Fasting Options: If you cannot observe a complete fast or the Daniel Fast, consider other forms of sacrifice—such as abstaining from social media, television, or favorite treats—while dedicating extra time to prayer (1 Corinthians 7:1–5).
  • Follow the Holy Spirit: Always seek and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit in your fasting and prayer journey.
